2011 Detroit Auto Show

The North American International Auto Show opens to the public this Saturday. Here are some of the cars that will be on display:

Porsche 918 RSR: This one's quite interesting. The 918 RSR is a hybrid racecar based on Porsche's soon to be released 918. Unfortunately, there isn't a racing series in existence the RSR is qualified for. That makes it quite pointless. Looks good though.

Chevrolet Sonic: Chevy has finally decided to replace the Aveo. It's about time. The Aveo was a fine car, but it lacked anything that could be considered exciting. The Sonic is better off already. It's got a great name and really good looks. This is a good one.

Volkswagen Passat: The new Passat was designed to appeal more to the American market. It's bigger and made here in the U.S.A. That's good, but it looks like the Passat is suffering from the same problems as the new Jetta. It seems a little boring. Most of the Passat reviews so far, have been pretty negative. They complain about the looks and the fit and finish. Oh dear. Volkswagen rarely messes up, so it'll be interesting to see if the Passat is as bad as they say.

Toyota Prius: Toyota has announced that the Prius will not have an interior at all like the one seen at the show, but that the exterior will remain unchanged. The exterior, as you can see, is quite ugly. That's good for Toyota. Ugly has worked so far. Why mess with success?

Hyundai Velostar: This is a strange car. A very strange car. As you can see from this picture it is a three door Hyundai. Nothing unusual about that. But, if you were looking at the Velostar from the other side, you would be seeing what looks like a five door Hyundai. For some reason, Hyundai thought that having two doors on the left side of the car and one door on the other made sense. I'd like them to know this: It doesn't.

So there you go: A little green Hyundai with stupid doors, an ugly Toyota, a boring Volkswagen, a well named compact, and a pointless hybrid racecar. This is going to be a great show.
