LONGTERMER #2, Volume 14; Month 18: Honda Civic FD2 2.0IVTEC

In this blog entry, I'll be covering my ride.  The Honda Civic FD2. This is 14th update of Longtermer #2, this month's the 18th month we (my family) owned the Civic 2.0iVTEC FD2.

What's happened in the month between October and December. Let's see...

Last month (Early December), I took the Civic to Sumber Auto Edaran (again), for 25,000km service for routine oil-change. I REQUESTED "HONDA SEMI SYNTHETIC OIL". BUT those bloodsuckers, AGAIN they still insisted on 5000km oil change despite running on Semi-Synthetic oil. Wonder why?

Here's a WARNING to those FD2 owners who still using Factory FITTED tyres.  Apparently, Michelin Pilot Preceda 1 is NOT a GOOD tyres when wet.  So thread carefully.  The Civic Aquaplaned briefly despite the PRESENCE of Traction Control.

ALSO, HONDA MALAYSIA claimed that this car RUNS WELL on RON95, I personally tested ALL 3 Shell products. RON95, RON97 green and V-power.  Guess what?  The claims were NONSENSE.  It turned out that the RON95 IS THE WORST.  Why?

Harsher engine note, drinks more fuel and higher RPM @ 110km/h @ 2600rpm.  "Full tank" stoods at 360km only, 1 "bar" dropped after a mere 15kms - NOTE THAT THERE'S 20 bar (see photo on left). The middle of the trio is V-power.  It returned 10% better mileage compared to RON95 (Full tank 420km) - 1 bar dropped per 20km, but still NOT AS GOOD AS RON97 Green, which recorded 13km/L+ consistently (Full tank 450km++) - 1 bar dropped 30km and 110km/h @ 2200rpm.  As a result, the BEST FUEL for this Civic FD2 is STILL Shell RON97 Green OR Petronas RON97. 

Been enjoying driving the car around. In fact, WE (me and my dad) used this car more often now compared to the Ford Telstar.

Over the last 10 days, my dad drove this Civic FD2 HARD.  To Genting Highlands (2 rounds), 2 rounds of KLIA, 1 Round to Seremban to play golf.  This is the reason why I updated this blog entry LATE.  Scheduled on 31 December but dad's in Seremban back then. 


Without further ado, let's proceed to LOGBOOK.

Current Value: RM113,000
Purchase price: RM126,000 (less NCB)
Mileage when bought: 0008km

Mileage last update (September 28): 21,555km.

Mileage today (January 1): 27,536km
Average mileage per month: 1620km

FUEL CONSUMPTION (This Month):
Best: 14.05km/L, 100% highway, Petronas RON97 (last week driven by my DAD)

WORST: 8.2km/L (Shell RON95) 80% City driving and some HARD DRIVING (20%) - Up to 5500rpm revving, very heavy foot driven by ME. (November 26 2009)

LAST 6 months:
Best: 14.05km/l (90% highway driving) (1st week of September)
Worst: 8.2km/l (80% City driving, 20% HARD DRIVING) (November 26 2009)

Expenses:

1) Oil Change (SEMI-SYNTHETIC, Oil-filter, 25,000km routine inspection. RM220
2) Touch and Go reload => RM100.
Petrol, parking and toll charges, that's all.
