“ Abso-bloody-lutely crazy! It’s a racing car for the road.”
The Mosler MT900 is the creation of Warren Mosler of Mosler Automotive in Florida. Originally conceived as a mid engine Corvette race car the MT900, designed by former GM engineer Rod Trenne, has an outstanding race pedigree both in the US and Europe. The MT900S is the US street legal version of the successful race cars that won the 2003
British GT Championship and 2004 Spanish GT Championship. Currently there are a number of cars been raced by private owners in the FIA, British, Dutch and Spanish Championships.
A limited batch of road legal cars is being produced in order for the MT900 to be able to qualify to participate at Le Mans in 2006. These MT900S versions, have already passed the Federal crash safety requirements as well as the stringent Californian CARB emissions legislation and the UK SVA. The MT900S’s are being engineered and assembled by Mosler Europe Ltd in close collaboration with the Mosler race teams and Mosler USA.
The aerodynamically designed composite bodywork is fitted with a nose splitter as well as an adjustable carbon rear wing and a venturi at the rear.
The MT900S has an advanced honeycomb centre chassis and interior to provide enormous structural strength but still weighs in at under 1,150 kg The alloy Chevrolet LS6 engine coupled to the specially adapted Porsche GT3 gearbox is held in a substantial frame made from aerospace grade lightweight high strength steel. This same steel is also used for the front subframe which carries the front suspension, steering and aircon unit.
The race bred independent suspension with wishbones all round and front and rear adjustable anti roll bars, uses many cast alloy components and with its remote reservoir Penske dampers provides a firm but reassuring and comfortable ride.
As standard for the US market the car is fitted with Corvette brakes for ease of servicing. For Europe 355mm diameter grooved and drilled ventilated disc brakes with 6 piston Wilwood alloy callipers front and rear provide massive stopping power.
The MT900S rides on OZ Superleggera III 19in front and 20in rear forged alloy 3-piece wheels fitted with Dunlop SP9000 Sport tyres, Michelin’s superb PS2 high performance tyres are available as an optional extra.
The Mosler is equipped with remote central locking, electric windows as well as a Thatcham approved Toad alarm system. The Tracker system can be specified as an option. A power point is provided in the cockpit for ancillaries together with a CD player.
The rear body can be raised for access to the ample luggage space which can carry a pair of overnight bags together with a set of golf clubs.
The all carbon cockpit is fitted with two rake adjustable seats whilst the drivers seat is adjustable for and aft. with a height adjustable leather Momo steering wheel together with optional 4 point racing seat belts. The cockpit is equipped with an advanced digital instrument system complete with gear shift lights and a play back facility.
Whilst the interior is mainly carbon fibre with leather piped floor mats it can also be upholstered to the owners choice in a variety of materials such as suede type cloth and fine Scottish leather.
The exterior can be painted in any colour to suit the owners preference although some special paint finishes will incur extra cost.
There is a 2 year 12,000 warrantee on the car provided it is used for road use only.
